Varanus priscus (Megalania)

Description

Varanus priscus or Megalania prisca (Megalania) is a giant, now extinct, Monitor lizard (Goanna).
They went extinct around 50,000 years ago (give or take)
It would have grown to an estimated 5.5m long (18 ft) and would have weiged around 575kg (1,268 lb).
They had a small crest between the eyes, which set them apart from other varanids.

Pictured here is an adult (male) feeding on a freshly killed juvenile Procoptodon sp. His teeth, crushing bite and venom would have made short work of the unfortunate marsupial.

I plan on doing a larger (A3) version of this drawing, complete with a background and some foliage. The lines should be cleaner, and it will allow me to improve on this.

Lovely work. Curious - is the idea of Megalania as one of Australia's top predators (often popularized bc it sounds so dope on paper) true? Or was it more of a quiet, lower-food chain type meat eater compared to say Thylacoleo?
